General Business: LWAG are hosting Todd Baldwin at the first meeting for 2022 on January 27. Todd will update the group on Contact Energy’s resource consent process with a focus on mitigation options.
Statutory Processes: LWAG submitted on the Nukahau Plan Change which proposes the future development of approximately 780 dwellings in an area identified in the Taupō District 2050 - Growth Management Strategy (TD2050) as a northern growth area. However, this can’t happen until there is capacity in the wastewater pipes, i.e. the current capacity of the Control Gates pipeline is an issue. Decision pending.
Farming Issues: He Waka Eke Noa Discussion Document Steering Group Discussion Document to support Partnership Targeted Engagement now available. This provides joint industry and government commitments that aim to equip farmers and growers to reduce emissions, maintain or increase sequestration, and adapt to a changing climate. Science Update: LWAG meeting Feb17th – ‘Climate Change & NZ’s Energy options’ – James Renwick, current Head of School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington James has been involved with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change process for several years, and speaks regularly to the media on climate change issues. He has a general background in atmospheric physics, plus mathematics and statistics and have broad interests most aspects of climate, from the distant past to the near future.
A message from Malcolm McLeod -’Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research are completing research on E. coli, N and P leaching from lysimeters of Pumice Soil treated with Dung Beetles. Exciting as we have published on an Allophanic Soil from volcanic ash collected from the rolling country south of Hamilton. This time we had a Pumice Soil from the Taupo catchment and an old clayey soil from near Wellsford up north.’
